Gothenburg (Göteborg), Sweden (Sverige)

September 8-10, 2001

Now this tops Uppsala as the most lively Scandinavian city visited. I took the tourist card route going to a few art and history museums and a boat tour. It seems much of Scandinavians unique Viking era history has been so long lost that there's not so much concrete evidence of the culture as compared to the rest of Europe.

At the hostel I meet a friendly John Denver looking guy with Harrison Ford mannerisms. He's from Minnesota, working as a call in nurse for a hospital in Hawaii. Genealogy research is his reason for travel, but has hitch hiked through so many places it's clear to see that there are other passions of the road that keeps him going. He talked far too much both nights, but it was all enjoyable until the hours I started nodding off.
